<p>The title of this blog really gives me a laugh. Over the years, I have heard this a few times from business owners and even recently my manager heard this same comment from a potential employee. Pay per click advertising, PPC, Google Ad Words or whatever you call it is not only a great way for local and national businesses to generate targeted visitors for their websites but best of all, you only pay when that visitor clicks on the ad and is transferred to your website.</p>
<p>Here is a breakdown of Google&#8217;s advertising revenues (money from pay per click ads) over the last 5 years:</p>

<p>I will be the first to say that pay per click advertising should not be the only online strategy a business owner uses but it should be in their arsenal. Obviously people click on the ads and from Google&#8217;s revenue numbers above, it is crystal clear that they click on those paid text ads a whole bunch. Why would you leave this business on the table when it could be yours?</p>

<p> Whatever the product, heree are some good general tips on running a PPC campaign and getting the results you are looking for.1. You dont have to spend the maximum recommended budget. Pay-Per-Click engines like Google AdWords will show your ad for a fraction of the day if you do not commit to the full daily budget. However, you can choose the time of day that your ads run, and Google will shuffle your ad in and out of its listings throughout the day until your daily budget is met through clicks. 2. Use negative matching. If you have a keyword phrase that is associated with irrelevant searches, make sure to filter out those words in your ad group. For example, if you sell fish lures, and your keyword is fish lures then you want to make sure words such as repair and hire are represented as negative keywords by adding -repair and -hire in the list of keywords (see individual search engine for details on how to do this)3. Be wary of Content Matching. Content Network Matching is a way of showing your ad next to online text that contains your keywords. The original idea behind this was to place your ad near relevant articles about your product or services. You must turn off the content match option when you set up your pay-per-click campaign. Most often,content match will not result in sales for you.4. Google lets you put a phone number in your AdWords Ad. If you can sell effectively via the phone, you can save the cost of a click with a phone number included within the ad.5. For your PPC campaign to work, you need to make sure customers are landing on web pages that are relevant and easy to navigate. If a customer does not see what they are looking for immediately, they will click the back button on their browser and look at the next site. Always check that your links navigate correctly. 6. You should also write your ads for the surfers who will NOT buy from you. Some customers are looking for items that are cheaper than what you sell, and others are looking for an item that is defined with similar keywords. By adding the price of your product in the ad copy you can weed out customers looking for cheap items. Not all PPC results in sales or conversions. There are some business models that do not respond well to pay-per-click. If the customer is going to be spending large amounts of money on a product or service, they may want to see a sample of what they will be buying. When you are setting up a campaign, you should ask yourself who your competitors are and how they reach their customers.8. Your competitors may be losing money on their PPC campaigns. Some companies use Pay Per Click in the same way they use a billboard, which is to build a brand.
